Propane refill failure

Hi all,

Just brought my Thor Ace to get my propane refilled. After trying several fittings that "normally work", they were unable to fill the tank. They said it was because the refill valve is either stuck or malfunctioning and suggested I take it to a propane service facility.

Anyone have a clue as to what is going on???

Robert

Take it to another supplier, preferably one familiar with motor homes.

Thanks for the advice, but, this place typically fills motor home tanks as well as other types.

We had that problem once when trying to refill it in December: The valves froze. Took a bit for the guy to get it cleared out.

That's what I think is happening. The valve is just stuck closed. This is the first time I am refilling the tank since I bought the ACE and don't really know the details of the process for refilling. I assumed it would be similar to refilling a bbq tank. I speak to the other dealer and see what happens.

Here is a link to a kit that allows you to run a grill (need a regulator) and to use an external tank if you run out of propane in the onboard tank.

Hi everyone

Just an update on the propane problem. Went to the recommended RV place and he had no problem filling the on board tank. Just connected the hose and fitting he had and opened the valve. The fitting did look a bit different and not as complicated as the first guy I tried. In any case, I think the lesson learned is go to a trustworthy place. The only problem was the cost of the propane itself. The first place was $2.19 per gallon and the place I bought from was $4.00 per gallon. My wife said the price difference went to their knowledge.

The guy that comes by the house to fill my 500 gallon tank also checks my coach to see if needs filling at the same time. He uses the same adapter for the coach as he does for the house.

A good propane supplier will have multiple adapters on hand to fill tanks with different fittings. A supplier I used a couple of times for my Class C had to change adapters on his hose the first time he filled that coach. Had the same issue as you when he could screw on the adapter but the tank wouldn't fill. He screwed another adapter on his hose and all worked fine. He had about 5 different adapters for his filling operation.
