Thor 2017 Vegas 25.2 Bedroom radio reception

I wondered why I did not get any reception on the bedroom radio until I pulled out the radio and found that the antenna connection had never been hooked up and I do not know if there is an antenna cable available to connect to. Does anyone know if there is an antenna lead in present in the bedroom area?

I dont have your model coach but I can tell you there is no antenna on my Gemini for the house radio system. I just went to an RV show yesterday just to check on antennas on other units. None of the Gemini models had house antennas. I have an appointment scheduled with the dealer to install the antenna. So I would guess you have none. I called Thor about it and they said the dealer will install one so it would appear they intensionally do not install them at the factory.

I was complaining about having ZERO reception in the house radio of my 2018 Class C Outlaw. The Technician who is working on it told me that there is a "loop antenna" in the wall (whatever the heck that it...)
When I pick my rig up: I'[m going to have him show me proof of it's existence.

When I pulled my Jensen out of the wall there was a 6” piece of very fine wire, maybe size 20 pushed into the antenna socket. If there is a loop antenna it doesn’t work very well.

Thanks for the warning!
If he shows me something like that: there's going to be a great discussion about what an antenna should look like.

,

Reception on the bedroom radio was poor on our Vegas 25.2. When I pulled the radio out, the antenna is a single wire, maybe 24 inches long. Not ideal, but practically worthless in this case, as it was coiled and wrapped with a twist tie. No surprise that the radio reception was much better when the antenna wire was stretched out behind the radio!

Next project- improve front radio reception.

Mr Sunsshine,

Are you saying that this 24" piece of wire actually supplies adequate reception?

Oh, wait, did I say "adequate"? No, what I said was "much better". Adequate is a subjective term. You are never going to get great reception with an inside antenna.

Your results will vary, as will your satisfaction.

WE had the same problem in our Windsport, I too found nothing plugged into the antenna port on the back of the radio and no cable in the wall to plug in. Thor sent out the skinny wire replacement. I had already found a much better one on a radio I had removed from our pontoon boat. The boat antenna is about the same length but the wire is heavier. Works well.

Well I extended my radio antenna wire by about 3 feet so now my Jensen gets much better reception on the FM channels. Got the satellite radio on my phone Bluetooth figured out so that also works on the Jensen, maybe I will not need the external antenna after all.

Did I mention that I love this forum.

Next I tackle the tv issues.

What if you took that wire, and extended it downward to the frame of the rig? Do you think that would be worth a try?

Your right, the key phrase is " MUCH BETTER".

Antenna

I also unwrapped the twist tie around the small coil of wire and let it drop down into the cabinet because I knew this would improve the radio reception performance being an Analog Design Engineer with many years of experience in radio circuits.

Since I have a Vegas 25.2 with the bed that extends out the back of the RV, it would be difficult to get to the outside of the RV to use a good antenna system. Actually, I was more concerned with turning the lights off of the receiver front panel so my wife could go to sleep. The forum had the answer to that problem but I will probably just disconnect the radio altogether as I see no need for a radio in the bedroom.

I still wonder what the rational was for Thor to build in a system that would just lead to many customer service issues?

We use our bedroom radio for or outside speakers while sitting outside but we don’t use it while we’re inside.

Getting to the back of the radio

There is a screw on each end of the front panel (on the front of the panel, recessed).
