Which model ACE?

Most have a multi-use control/information panel that shows your tank/battery levels, starts the generator, and the gas and electric water heater switches are on the right side.

Our model is a 30.1 Class A
I know what control panel you are referencing. On ours, directly under the words water heater, it says LP GAS with a toggle switch and next to that 110V with its toggle switch. Under those two toggle switches, it says "Pilot Out" with a red light on. We can't figure out how to turn the pilot light on. The outside electronic mechanism has no button to push to turn the water heater on.

The two switches turn it on: either propane heat, or 120 VAC heat, or both.

There is no pilot light and that light should never be on unless there is a problem with the gas staying lit or a controller problem. "Pilot out" is a modern mis-nomer and is a hold over from the days that pilot lights were used. Now-a-days it is an "error" light.

Turn the LP gas switch off and use the electric. I do not have that option so cannot go any further.
But for the gas, turn off both switches and turn on the LP gas switch only. On ours you can hear the ‘click’, ‘click’, ‘click’ of the igniter. If successful, you will hear the gas ignite and the red light will extinguish. If it did not work, now do not be offended, but is the propane gas valve ‘open’? Good luck.

Stay cool

Thank you so much! This worked. We are the original owners, but have never had an issue with the water heater. The manual told us to flip a specific button, which didn't exist! The Atwood website was no help either. Many thanks. Thank goodness we're in Prescott, AZ where it was 96 degrees yesterday. The "cold" shower wasn't too bad!
