Thoughts on being plugged into shore power over the winter

I am fortunate to have access to shore power while at home. Is their a downside to being plugged in all the time?

Only if your converter doesn't properly go into float mode when your batteries are charged.

Ours it plugged in to a 50 amp pedestal any time we are home with A/C on during the summer. The factory installed Harris and Motorcraft batteries are still holding up well.

We had ours plugged in all winter last year with no problems and it’s plugged in anytime during the summer

The only downside will be when your relatives discover that you've got the coolest guest bedroom possible...

We keep our's in a garage plugged-in to shore power at all times. Summer time we keep AC set about 78 to keep it relatively cool and reduce humidity. Winter heat is set to 50 to keep everything nice and toasty above freezing. We use our rig 12 months on short trips at least.

Fridge is always ready. Temp is always where we can get to comfortable quickly. No need to winterize. Always ready to head out. In more extreme climates this may not be a good option, but it works here.

Mine is plugged in constantly

I have mine plugged in all the time but also have one of those surge protectors inline since I may be away from home when storms are present or there are power outages. It seems to be good.

Ours is plugged in all the time. Just like if we were full-timers.

Unlike most of you, I live in Alaska for seven months --summer-- in Alaska and our motorhome sits in Atlanta, Georgia for that period. This means I "summerize" the motorhome before I leave. We leave it plugged in to shore power all the time. This keeps the refrigerators running and I set the A/C to 85°F to fend off humidity inside. When we return in late October, the rig is set to head off on our winter rambles with little to do. Plug it in!!

If I may ask...
Why Atlanta?
Wouldn't it be more convenient to have it near Seattle; or some other great spot in the Great Northwest?

Thanks for the helpful replies. I thought it would be a good idea but had some concern about it somehow weakening the coach battery.

We've owned a house in Atlanta for 40 years! It's now basically a parking place for our motorhome for the 7 months we're in Alaska. Since we travel in the winter, things are easier to deal with in the southern tier of states, although we got snowed-in in Georgia last December! We've got 60 night's reservations for Florida as I need some warm sand between my toes in winter.

Most of the batteries that come standard are pretty weak from the factory!

Yes I just replaced the battery and I want to make it last and stay healthy, ergo my question.

Hmmmm .... I had started a reply/follow-up question and it just disappeared, so if it shows up someplace else ....

Anyway, we have a 50amp plug-in installed on the end of our home so we can stay plugged in when we're home. We've kept the AC going this summer.

We'd like to keep the rig ready to take off on trips during the winter.

My question: when you run the furnace during the winter, are you running it on propane?

Kim

Ours is plugged in all the time, while is storage and when we are out. Only time its unplugged, is while we are underway. Its better for the batteries to be kept charged, as long as your converter, inverter, goes to float mode when they are fully charged. All that I know of, do just that.
