Tackling the Toilet Tomorrow

Replacing the toilet in my ACE 30.2 tomorrow. Don’t ask how I broke the original one...it was definitely operator error. Anyhoo, if any of y’all have any pointers or tips, please feel free to share! Thanks!

2 nuts and a water connection. Should be a piece of cake.

Yeah I've replaced the ball valve in ours.

Removing and replacing the toilet is a pretty easy thing to do.

Got er done! It was easy as can be; just removed two 1/2” nuts and the water line off the back, which thankfully can be screwed on and off by hand. However, I got a NASTY little surprise. There were maggots in the black tank! A few of which were around the hole when I removed the toilet! I was definitely surprised by this as I am practically obsessed with rinsing my black tank, especially when I have full hookups. When dumping, I usually fill it up 5-6 times with water (using the sani-flush hookup on the side of the tank in the wet bay). Plus, I ALWAYS drop in a black tank “pod” every time I dump it. Have any of you experienced this, and if so, what can I do to get rid of the nasty little critters?

Maggots can be a nasty surprise where ever you find them. Since they are usually the larvae of flies.....I would check to see if flies can gain entrance to the black tank through the vent line on the roof ......or any other way. So stop the flies gaining entrance to stop new maggots; and flush the black tank top to bottom to get rid of those already in the tank. Maybe try an RV style toilet wand with the rotating head which attaches to a garden hose (use an anti backflow valve on the hose where it source attaches outside the coach).

I have always seen some type of very small worm type critter, I dont think I would call them maggots but maybe. I have just come to accept it as long as they dont get out of the black tank. Maybe those are the enzymes eating the poo lol

Whenever we're dumping the tanks, and cleaning out the "slinkies": our last protocol is to put about a cup of dish soap down the toilet, and we fire up the San-T-Flush. We let the tank get about five or six gallons of water in it, and then we dump the tank. We continue using the flushing system, until the water coming out is free from suds. The tank and the Slinkies are spotless, and bug free!
