TV/Cable junction box location? Shore cable TV not working

Hi all,

We are on our shake down trip with our 2015 Hurricane 32N. I can't get the shore cable TV signal to any of the TVs. They will all show the antenna signal without issue.

Here is what I have done this far:

- RV campground maintenance hooked a small TV to the shore cable and it worked. He also hooked up through my coax and it worked. So I know the signal is good up to where it enters the RV

- I turned off the signal amplifier for the antenna and ran and "cable" TV channel scan on each of the TVs with no channels found. (All TVs picked up ant channels with signal amp on)

- I took the signal amp switch apart and found that all lines looked good and were in good order

After looking at the owners manual again, I am trying to find where the junction box is that all the TVs are hooked to and the antenna and shore signal meet into.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

Our switch box is in an overhead cabinet above our kitchen. Each tv has a button for air, cable and satellite. Our antenna booster switch is in the same cabinet so this info may not help you with your coach . Our's is a 2014 Hurricane 34 f. Good luck !!

I bought a 32N and had the same problem. I found that power wires were disconnected on the switch box. The box itself is accessed via the upper cabinet nearest the entry door--on the right as you are entering the motorhome. The switch box is behind the wall to the right as you are looking at the cabinet. It is the same unit that controls the TV amplifier.

Thanks for the picture. I did pull the amplifier out and everything is in order there. I am looking for the junction box that all the TVs connect to. I think I'll have to call Thor.

Someone else on another thread called Thor and they determine that the box was not installed at the factory. Wonder if they forgot yours as well.

Sorry to hear that the problem continues. My cable connections for all the TVs were also located there, but the problem I had was one of the two power leads was disconnected. Hope you get an answer from Thor!

I called Thor and the tech explained the system and that it is set-up differently than depicted in the manual (go figure). He explained the shore cable is a straight shot from the outlet on the outside of the coach to the antenna power amplifier switch. The antenna connects in the switch and then a lead does out from the switch to a splitter for the 3 TVs.

So I know the signal from the switch to the TVs works because I have channels on all TVs from the antenna. The only thing to do now is check continuity from the shore receptacle to the switch. I'll do that tonight or tomorrow morning before work.

I wonder why the manual differs from the actual configuration?

Yes, the manuals need some updating. The splitter I found in my 32N was behind the cabinet wall in which the antenna amplifier was mounted. There were only a couple, three screws to remove and the wall pulled out revealing the splitter. Since you already checked that both power leads were connected to the amplifier, hopefully the splitter just needs the cables tightened. Good luck!

Do all Thor's have an antenna power amplifier switch? I have looked all over the Vegas and have not found anything listed as such. We are heading out for our first true RV overnighter this weekend so I guess I'll find out if we have good connections at the RV Park.

I really do find these listings to be very informative to learn about potential problems, fixes and ideas. No sense re-inventing to wheel.

Thanks to all who contribute.

DocMike,

Think you'll find the booster amp switch in the cabinet above the kitchen sink on the far right. A small button will switch it on/off and a green light will come on when it is in the boost mode. Tough to see from the floor unless you're over 6 ft tall.

The antenna amplifier on the Axis/Vegas 24.1 is above the shelf in the cabinet above the kitchen sink. Its way in the back on the right--you'll need a stool or small ladder to get up high enough to actually see it.

LOL! Jinx

Thanks, I will climb up and search at lunch.

With that location it sounds like they really "Child-proofed" that particular switch.

Just remember if you're connected to campground cable or satellite, the booster has to be turned off.

Larry,

Sounds like a real good "need to know" fact. It looks like another label for the label maker!

Thanks.

Well, my continuity from the outside cable receptical to the antenna booster is good. So, I'll try another campsite. If it doesn't work, it must be the booster preventing the cable signal from getting out to the TVs.

First Offsite Campout

Things went great. Had a nice site at the Wildlife Campgrounds in Sherrills Ford NC. Only thing forgotten was the milk for the morning coffee. We now plan to stock the dry stuff and canned milk.

Very nice! Your 2 dogs look quite comfortable "in the wild".

Glad all went well.

"in the Wild"

On the second day the smaller dog "MunPi" (pronounced moon pie) decided on her favorite spot as seen in the attached picture. I think she is turning out to be a city dog.

Looks familiar. Such is a dog's life. Our Lucy, also a Lab, can relate.
