Update on Failed Engine in Vegas
We have our RV back and it is repaired. One thing I learned is that Ford outsources the first level of contact with warranty customers. They have a contract with National Motor Coach, parent of Coachnet. Been doing it that way for almost 30 years. The rudeness and lack of initial coordination we experienced was at the hands of NMC. After we got Thor involved and pointed out they could be liable for a replacement under the Illinois Lemon Law, matters started to move. An actual Ford employee also became involved. Ford said they would repair, pick up our incidental expenses (which were not much since as we lawyers say, we did a good job of mitigating our damages), and they would extend the warranty. I have not yet submitted expenses and the details of warranty extension remain. They hired a driver to drive it home to us also. He was very nice.
So here is the summary from the servicing dealer:
"Vehicle is an E-type van chassis with the cab removed completely and converted into a motor home. Front end did not come off the same as a van for engine removal. Request more time for additional labor besides SLTS. 1439-Remove and replace engine (6007A). Dismantle and inspect engine condition (6007E1). Found #5 cylinder intake valve guide broke and entered the cylinder where it caused damage to the piston and cylinder head. Ordered short block and right bank cylinder head and gasket set. Replaced short block assembly (6007A1).Installed 1 new spark plug as #5 plug was damaged. Cleared codes and drove. OK now."
Now it has 1200 miles on it. Repair took about 3 weeks.
