Use/store switch setup? Differences?
I was reading another thread about leaving plugged in during winter and use/store switch was mentioned.
Are there different setups with this switch? I have the '14 34E Hurricane and I have hit the store switch when plugged and pretty sure nothing changes?
I thought I checked last winter and batteries were still charging, chassis and house.
But now u guys have me thinking and I may have to check again. Is it possible different models have different setups? Thx, Dennis.

If I don't have the switch in the use position when plugged in or the gen running it won't charge the coach battery. Found this out when the dash radio quit.Thought it was a fuse but found the coach batteries dead, now only put it in store mode when stored

I agree... In theory: the switch should be in the "Use" position, to make sure that all of the batteries are hooked-up, and charging...
..in theory...

Just for clarification chassis (V10 starting) or house as inside lights, heat, etc? Reason I'm confused is u mention both coach battery and coach batteries? I have only 1 battery for starting and 2 for house. Interesting though as my radio also goes thru house batteries and will not come on w/o being in use!!!
On another note, thanks for your service!!! We may have been over there about same time. Thx, Dennis.

Now next trip I have to take a good voltmeter over there and check!!!! My coach immediately kicks into use when I hook power up. I don't have to touch switch. Or at least I think it does. I know charging my house batteries then as I can see the battery check meter in coach starts reading full soon when it was on 2/3 or 3/4. But the concern is still w the chassis battery.
Is this normal? Thx, Dennis.

The battery check meter only reads the voltage on the "house" wires. Thus if you're in store mode and plugged in the battery check meter will read full (because the converter is providing a voltage even though the battery isn't connected).
Basic rule of thumb: If the coach is stored somewhere unplugged then put in "Store". Just about any other state leave in "Use".
The coach may not be "automatically switching to use" it could simply be the converter is providing 12V making you think its in Use (radio works, lights work, refer works, etc. all because its using the converter to supply 12V).

Thx. That's very possible as I guess it depends on where gauge is checking? I think I'll take a volt meter next time and check both the chassis and house.
What u think about :
1. If I check in the multiple settings of use/store at the battery/batteries?
2. If charging they should show something like apprx 14.8 volts, shouldn't they if charging?
3. If not charging they should show apprx 12.6, correct?
Plus, I think the basic rule of thumb makes perfect sense and meets "KISS"!!!!Thx, Dennis.

There is circuitry in the RV (either in the battery control center, or the BIRD) that when the USE/STORE switch is in USE, the circuitry will monitor the charge status of the house battery(ies) and the chassis battery (under the hood) and keep BOTH battery banks fully charged.
But as Jamie pointed out -- when on shore power or generator power the batteries will only charge when the switch is in USE.

(You left the door wide open for this one... )
How shocking: Jamie knows all about electricity!

I need help on this one
My use/store switch will not stay in the use position since my last outing.
It "clicks" as it always had but will not stay on in the use position for the 12v system. Lights/power works intermittently if I hold the switch to either the use or store position but when let off it all goes off.
Don't know it it has anything to do with it but I have been plugged to shore power for about 2 weeks and just realized this as I was unplugging and getting ready to pack for next outing.

A word of caution when putting the switch in the store position. Even in the store position there is considerable parasitic drain and batteries will discharge in a short amount of time. The only way to completely disconnect the batteries for storage is to install a true disconnect on the batteries.

I would look for a loose wire or intermittent short starting with behind the switch there.

My house batteries stay charged with the switch set to store. No parasitic drain. I think they wire every one of these RVs differently, no two the same.

Wow, you ARE lucky. We had one of our Harris batteries boil over while camping. Camp Land replaced both of them with Crown batteries and no more problems.

X3... I can leave mine in Store for month+ without charging and both coach and chassis are fine (no disconnect on chassis)
Have to learn YOUR rig and how it is set up. They are all over the map.

You guys ARE lucky!
I can get about four days, before the batteries start looking pretty "thirsty"...
