VEGAS/AXIS replace radio antenna?

Our 2016 VEGAS stubby radio antenna rubber is breaking down completely..

Has anyone else had this issue and what great solutions have the experts in the forum come up with?

So far GORILLA TAPE has been my friend, but don't think this is a really good solution...

It's a very simple inexpensive $4 to $12 fix. It's a crescent wrench and an Amazon search worth of difficulty.
I suggest one about an inch taller than the rv so if it taps a ceiling at slow speed, you'll know to back out before you damage anything.

I broke mine a few years back on a low branch. It broke the rubber coating, but the metal antenna inside was still good. I purchased a 20mm shrink wrap for fishing rods from Amazon (they only had red when I bought it) cut a piece off , slipped it over the antenna and shrunk it with a heat gun. It has worked fine for two years. The red one gives the additional advantage of knowing which RV is mine from a distance.

Did you mean to include a link or picture?

Did anyone replace their antenna? I want to add the XM antenna to the roof. I was thinking about pulling the new antenna wire up to the roof with an extra string and then pull the old antenna wire back to the dash board.
trying to avoid removing all the trim and trying to get the antenna wire under the dash

Works great and no holes!

Did the same with our Axis and it worked great no matter the direction we were driving. No additional holes in the roof or wires is a good thing!

True, except for buildings and overpasses we haven't had a drop out while on the road...

GREAT IDEA! Hadnt thought of the heat shrink tape. ALWAYS look for a reason to use it, too.

So was this a "unscrew" the old and "screw on" the new?

Same here, shrink wrap is excellent for this purpose.

1. Unscrew ball section that sets angle
2. Unscrew ball section from rubber antenna
3. Take ball section to car radio store. Industry calls these "rubber ducky" antenna.
4. Test ball section threads into new antenna.
5. Reattach ball halves and set angle.
