Steps not re tracking

We are on a trip and my wife stepped out of our Miramar and the steps hit the curb. They will now not fully retrack. There appears to be a cord hanging down that looks like it should plug in somewhere but I am not sure. The steps will not go out or in, engine running or off.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

First thing I would do is get a flashlight and see where that plug goes. Possibility the plug wasn't fully engaged and popped out due to the curb.

When you say the steps hit the curb, so you mean they broke and fell or did they extend and hit the curb during extension?

Have you checked to see if your coach is under the Lippert step recall and if so did you have the recall applied?

You say the steps will not fully retract. Do they start to move and then stop?

You also say the steps will not go out or in.

When the steps hit the curb did they hit it hard enough to damage the steps?

I'm confused.

I had a similar problem, after a piece of a truck tire hit the step. The frameof the step was slightly bend from the impact, and caused the step to bid after it went in a little. I was able to bend the frame back into the OK position, and that solved the binding problem. My be that hitting the curb caused a slight deformation of the step frame (the section the step slides in ).

Thanks all. Let me see if I can clear up some questions:

The door opened and as normal the steps extended. Being close to the curb they stopped extending before being fully extended. My wife walked out and stepped in the not quiet extended steps.

When they retracted they stopped retracting with about 2 inches to go. They are basically stuck in that position. Or so I thought.

About an hour drive later when I stopped and opened the door they fully extended, but would not retract all the way, and now will not extend all the way. Or so I thought...

Yesterday they extended all the way, would not retract and would have not extended since.

I am now in the process of scheduling a visit to the dealer. Once fixed I will post the cause so someone may benefit down the road.

First, what about the wire you found dangling loose. Second, have you tried LIBERALLY lubricating your steps. After I took delivery of my coach one of the first things I did was lubricate all movable parts, hinges, doors, hood, and steps.

Sounds like slippage in the drive train between the motor and the steps. Mine are manual so I don't know what the drive train is. Possibly broken teeth on a gear???
