WATER IN BATTERY. Help!!

I have a 2017 Thor Hurricane got it almost one year ago this week, but it has been in shop for many weeks since we have had it for all kinds of little things and big. Every time we ask them to check all levels for us and although twice they didn’t fill the propane which we asked them to do, they said they did check everything.

So it is in now for the last 4 weeks replacing the Inverter. They just called and said the battery was OUT OF WATER AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT WILL BE $414 to replace it!!

This is insane to me! Less than one year and they were supposed to check it at least 4 or 5 times over that year?

Major BS. The simple battery in there is about $100 any auto parts.

Camping World is doing the work in Santa Clarita.

I would also think the battery should be covered or they need to replace it.

Camping World is a well known place to avoid.

Don’t walk, RUN away from that shop!!! Go and buy two deep cycle marine batteries, install them yourself and be done! $414 is robbery!!! Another example of CW gouging clients!!!

Just a moment, You have two issues, one of getting quality service and the other the price of the battery. A really good high cap battery can cost $180 x2= tax could cost $388 plus installation so $414 might be a fair price assuming the battery is really a good one.
You need to do your homework on the battery because $100 battery in not recommended.
There is no excuse for low water on a 1 year old rig. CW needs to step up and make it right.

Thanks so much. Unfortunately we are at their mercy since they have had it for weeks and we are leaving for our trip and need it done and they called us 2 hours before they close. It’s an hour drive each way for us to pick it up

Soooooo frustrating!

Trojan deep cycle batteries for an RV run about $150 at any good battery supply place. CW sells Exide Stowaways for $150 the last time I checked, they are available from Tractor Supply $90 and are a good deep cycle battery for an RV and are what I'll replace our 2 yr old crap batteries with this spring.

Any good auto parts place will have good deep cycle batteries and may have change them for you like they do auto cranking batteries for free.
Take your time and study your options.

I would like to see an auto parts store change out the chassis battery in the Axis. It would be worth a You-Tube video post.

Battery out or really low on water after 1 year could be caused from being over charged. That’s what happened to mine. Previous owner replaced the converter and I have had no problems for over 2 years. Go to Walmart and buy 2 batteries. There very few actual manufacturers of batteries they just have different names on them. Just a suggestion.

Also check the water level frequently. Mine seem to need “topping up” every few weeks when in use. I have come to believe that most folks have been spoiled by their maintenance free auto batteries and don’t think to check these old style batteries. You can get a simple device to check/add water without having to remove the caps which can be difficult to do due to access issues.

What kind of device can I get to check and add water that doesn't require removal of caps? I've never seen anything like that but would be interested.

I installed on my four battery system.

If you don't have a clearance issue above the battery, this system is a little easier on the wallet.
