Water Heater Trouble

We took our 2015 Hurricane out this weekend after having the water heater repaired and it failed again. The last time the dealer replaced a diode (I think) that was connected to the thermostat. When I checked it this weekend the exterior of the vent looked like it had an open flame or something. You can't see it from the picture but after wiping the smoke off the paint it actually looks singed like it has been too hot. I am afraid to take it back to the dealer because of the potential for fire. Does anyone know what the problem may have been? Is Atwood the cheapest of the cheap? The water heater is again completely dead, both gas and electric.
