Windshield Wiper Arm

Good day to all - I was driving back from Aransas Pass and it started to rain going 60 MPH and the windshield wiper arm would skip and not stay firm against the windshield. I had to slow down to 30 MPH for the arm to work properly. Any suggestions?

Not sure what year yours is but I had a 2014 Daybreak 32HD and used the wipers up to 75mph ( I-10 Ft Stockton to Van Horn) without any issues. Maybe a new arm is needed for better tension

More than likely the problem is due to a lack of pressure from the wiper arm. The wind force from driving is causing the wiper to lift away from the windshield. This problem is not RV centric but also happens on cars and trucks as well.

There are a few things you can try.

First and cheapest is to bend the wiper arm slightly towards the windshield thereby increasing the pressure on the windshield. Just the slightest additional bend can make all the difference.

You can also try a supplemental spring such as Sure Wipe (sold at Walmart and Napa) that increases the arm pressure on the windshield.

Also there are air deflectors (or spoilers so to speak) that can be installed on the wiper arms that increase the pressure of the arm on the wind shield.

Resolution?

The driver side wiper on My 2013 Thor ACE is doing the same thing driving in the rain for the first time ever. The spring tension on the driver side arm is distinctly less than the arm on the passenger side. How were able to resolve your issue? It looks like there's two choices; replace the arm or try to increase spring tension by moving outer part of the arm outward thus stretching the spring increasing tension. I would appreciate knowing your resolution. Thanks.

I bent the arm slightly so it increased the pressure of the wiper on the windshield. I haven't driven in a "heavy rain" but it has worked well during light and moderate rain.

You may also want to try Rain-X. I have used it for years with very good results.

Follow the directions and don't apply in the hot sun. For the best results do one coat and then the next day with the windshield still clean, do another application, just make sure you get it all buffed off.

I can pass large trucks on the interstate in a driving rain and never be in a position of not being able to see.
