I tow a wrangler but not using D rings. Not sure if you are aware, but over at IRV2 there was a discussion last year on towing using D rings.

I tow using d-rings on a smittybult bumper. Each d-ring is attached to the frame, through the bumper, with 4 grade 8 bolts.

My tow bar is a ready brake elite. Simple and easy to us.

Towed over 17k miles with mostly no issues. The one issue I had...you can find it somewhere on the forum...was my own fault.

We did that with a 90 YJ in the early 90's a real PITA to hook up. Currently use the Blue OX tow bar and base plate. Easier to hook up then a trailer. The current Wrangler is a 2016 JKU. Handled great all through the rockies.

I considered the Smittybuilt but was latter talked into the Dempco what a great towbar inexpensive and very incuspicous on my Rubicon many people can't even tell

If you go with a smittybuilt you have to be careful which one you get. I'm setting up a tj to tow and first ordered the src classic bumper and it only has 2 bolts holding it on the top and 2 on the bottom. I then looked at the xrc bumper and it had all the bolts like stock 4 on top and 2 on the bottom. Good /bad news it's a winch bumper so now I have to get a winch

I went with Smittybuilt front bumper and tow bar. I emailed them because they use only 4 bolts vs 6 but they said it was ok with 4.
