Probably the best overall tow vehicle is Honda CR-V before 2015. Besides my c max lol

The latest Ford Escape cannot be towed 4 down with any drive train (see Here, 2018 owner's manual page 215 (pdf)).

We just started towing 4 down a few weeks ago, bought a 2018 Ford Fiesta, auto trans. this car is only 2500 lbs, you never know it is back there.
