We have had that situation happen with both a 4 down tow (Jeep Wrangler) and with our Jeep Renegade on a dolly. Both times were in poorly signed campgrounds where there was a turn required that was simply way too tight for a motorhome. We had to unhook and park, back the RV and then go back and get the toad and hook it back up to proceed. It is more frustrating than anything else - 15 minutes of your life you will never get back.

In both cases, it was not too hard to do as we are practiced in hooking up and unhooking. We are currently dolly towing our new front wheel drive Jeep Cherokee.

People should read state laws on supplemental braking before they considering travel and check with there insurance company about there take on it. I tow a Kia Soul with an ACE 29.3 . I use a Patriot system without a problem. Just returned from a two month trip west crossing Rockies without a problem.

All Toads should have a braking system...
The bigger the Toad: the more important it is!

Yep, if you're towing you're probably gonna wind up 'down a rabbit hole' at least once. Flat towing shortens that process but it still a pain. When we had our first RV - a BUMPER pull - it was awful. Lots more careful these days but after 35k+ in 2.5 years stuff uhh happens.

Doc

Drove a rented Kia Soul for the last three days and liked it a lot; very nice car for its size. Not only was it fun to drive, it was surprisingly quiet at speed. I expected a boxy car to have more wind noise, but it was quieter than my Hondas.

I've been looking for a compact "car" that sits a little higher to replace my parent's old car so they can get in and out easier, and the Soul may just work. I'm glad I rented it.

I was disappointed earlier today because I couldn't get a wheelchair in trunk area without folding rear seat, but just noticed the wheelchair can be folded much smaller.

First consideration is what methods can your Jeep be towed? Look in the owners manual.
Many 4WD Jeeps can only be flat towed... Many 2WD Jeeps can only be dolly towed.... There are exceptions, the specific owners manual wins.

Many threads on brake systems... Permanent or temporary... 'dead pedal' or power.

Only storing reference I see is to the dolly... And room to store it on your site... Easier to store dolly than full trailer - as Jamie showed, most of the dolly can often tuck under the MH... But if you have a rear drop down door on toy hauler - might not be an option...

Interesting read, this thread. Below is a copy and paste from the 2017 Ford E-450 owners manual. It is more than likely the same wording for a 2016 E-350, which was the original posters unit.

start of paste--->
(Important: The towing
vehicle’s braking system is rated
for operation at Gross Vehicle
Weight Rating, not at Gross
Combined Weight Rating.)
Separate functional brakes should
be used for safe control of towed
vehicles and for trailers where the
Gross Combined Weight of the
towing vehicle plus the trailer
exceed the Gross Vehicle Weight
Rating of the towing vehicle.
<---end of paste

My questions are: Is there a weight ratio of RV to Toad that dictates the need for a breaking system? Is it the law to have a breaking System for the Toad? Is it a safety issues? My Kia weighs in at just over 2400lbs?

Planning this season to start towing so trying to find out the rules and issues involved here.

Doc
Most states require brakes on trailers and toads over 3000 lbs. A few are 4000 lbs. Google it to fond out each state.

All,
After reading and studying input this forum and other places for this past Christmas we got the RV setup for towing with Roadmaster Falcon 2 Towbar, tow plate for the Soul and we went with the Invisibrake system. Now, just waiting for the weather to turn nice and head out for our maiden voyage with Toad in Tow!

Actually some states are as low as 1000 lbs...
Can't get more than 2 states out of Florida without hitting a 1000-2000 pound state.

Brake Buddy seems to have a good list... Verify for yourself the states you will be DRIVING through... This is one restriction that you need to meet the requirements of the state you are in - and not the state the vehicle is registered in.

Crazy, in SC and NY I would be in violation towing my motorcycle in a trailer. Good thing most of the time I am towing in Fl to Daytona Beach.

All,
As I mentioned earlier this year, after reading and studying input this forum and other places for this past Christmas we got the RV setup for towing with Roadmaster Falcon 2 Towbar, tow plate for the Soul and we went with the Invisibrake system.

Below was our first trip out with our Kia toad Easter weekend. We had no problem on I-40 into Asheville and up to Cherokee and the Happy Holiday RV Village. Trip up and back was no problem, but no luck with the trout fishing.

Thanks. When you fold the back seat down in that Soul and there is a ton of storage. Now, I have to work on the DW to get a fishing kayak for my 65th Birthday. Which will require some kind of roof mount for the Kia...a topic for my next posting topic.

Looks great, now to get some swirl decals that match the RV and put them on the car

You could go for it all and have the car painted to match the coach

Doc, how did the "toad" effect your handling and power/mpg on your AXIS/VEGAS?
