Flat towing lifted Jeep

Anybody tried flat towing a lifted TJ ?
It's a 99 , 5 inches of suspension lift , 37 inch tires.

As long as you figure out what you need to get the drawbar level:
Let us know what it takes, and good luck!

(by the way: NICE Jeep!)

Thanks. I have towed this Jeep in 2000 when it had 4 inches of lift and 35's behind a rented class a with no problems but it has grown a few inches since. If flat towing is a problem I guess the next option is a trailer.

Jeeps don't belong on trailers...
Unless the trail ride was more interesting, than was originally planned!

I think the issue is like Bob said, getting the ball high enough. Any ideas are welcome. Is turning a 8 inch drop receiver upside down a no ?

You can spin them however you want, in order to get the job done.

Although my gut tells me that the more you raise or lower the ball: the more you might impact towing capacity...

If towbar came off at the ball it would go thru radiator of motorhome. That's my worry.

I’m interested

to see what you come up with. I flat tow a wrangler unlimited with a 3” lift and a blue ox towbar. It’s not level while towing (the Jeep is higher than the level of the hitch), and the towbar itself slides into the receiver; not a “ball type” hitch. In other words, I can’t simply turn the ball over...because it doesn’t have a ball. Does anyone know of a solution for this? Thanks!

I think you may be out of luck on this one! You’d need a 20 inch high/low adapter and even if there was such a thing it’d probably weigh 80 or 90 pounds. Could be wrong though, pretty much everything is possible given enough commitment to the cause. And money.

For lockchuck92, look for a high/low adapter. Apparently they are not properly called drop hitches though usually either term will get you the desired results. These things don’t use a ball and should do what you need. Unless you need 20 inches change....!

I found a 12 inch rise hitch at etrailer.
Only need 9 more inches. I got it, 6 inch lift kit on motorhome , drop tire size to 35's and I'm there. Ha.
I think I will look at trailers tomorrow.

I tow an 89' YJ with 3.5" lift and 33/12.5's with a standard towbar and ball hitch...no brakes, but only for short hauls nearby, such as drag races, NASCAR or a local event. The most important thing is make sure the hitch assembly...whatever you use, is mounted in a way that the hitch actually "declines" a bit from the coach down to the bumper of the Jeep or at least level...no incline. In an emergency, hard brake situation, the Jeep can "run under" the hitch if it's mounted the opposite. Plus, every time you start off, the forces will pull down on the front of the Jeep increasing turning resistance and accelerate front tire wear. For the long-haul, I bought a 16' car hauler trailer for the Jeep. It allows more space for ladder, portable generators and anything else I wish to take along specific to the trip. The tires on my Jeep are aggressive tread and towing four down long distances will really eat away the rubber.

She has "Cat Scratch Fever", but in a good way. A Ted Nugent original found in a barn in Michigan...68K original miles. Still trying to get the wife to ride in it with out covering her face.

Just a thought...
How about a smaller set of tires and wheels, for when it's being towed?
It wouldn't take all that long, to bolt on the serious rubber!

Considering all options at this point.
Just stopped by local trailer sales yard but they are closed on Mondays.
