Hitch Advice??

I'll be pulling a 39' 5th wheel (Redwood) weighing about 16,000 lbs fully loaded. Considering safety, ease of ride, cost, etc, what hitches should I consider and why?

Considering what we paid for the 5th wheel and how much we anticipate spending on a truck, I don't want to scrimp on a good hitch.

We are full timing near Fort Worth (for now).

Thanks very much!

I use the B&W hitch w/Companion. It is rated for 18,000 pounds and can be used with either a conventional pin box or a goose neck style.
If you plan to tow a lot you may want the TrailAir Tri-Glide Air Ride pin box option. It will provide a smoother ride for the front of the trailer and give you more clearance between the trailer and bed rails of your tow vehicle.

I have the 20.5k Super 5th by Pullrite and love the hitch. I previously ran the Superglide for use with my Montana and shortbed truck. Since moving up to my Redwood, I opted to go bigger on the hitch. I will buy another Pullrite hitch when the time comes. The automatic locking feature is priceless to me as I am single and dont have the extra set of eyes watching out while hooking and unhooking. I can see the release handle slide closed from inside the truck.

No matter whose hitch you buy paint the jaws while closed white that way when you do your check you can tell if it is locked

That's good advise Frank, I painted mine years ago. It's just a simple matter then to glance at the jaws when you go back there to finish the hookup.

I read it some where early on, and I did it first thing. It is a good safety factor when you leave and it is still dark out

You don't mention what you're looking at for a TV, Long or Short Box, Can make a difference on hitch preference. Because of the weight I hope you're looking at Duallies, which would only get you a long box so there would be no need for a slider. But I would say go bigger than you need, at least a 20K as that 16K loaded can easily turn into 17K, don't ask how I know.

mhs4771: All very good points.
Also a little voice of experience there I see.
