Towing capacity 22E

By chance has Thor changed towing. Limit from 5000 to 7500 on it's smaller rvs? I saw where Jayco has gone to 7500.

Assuming you're referring to a Chateau or Four Winds 22E, the Thor web site shows they are installing 8,000-pound trailer hitch. See picture attached.

However, in practice that could be misleading for most owners because they would be limited by Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) before they reach the 8,000 pound limit of the hitch itself.

You also didn't mention whether chassis is Chevy or Ford, which makes a big difference.

Assuming you are close to fully loaded before connecting the trailer (not a great assumption but I'm making it in order to keep reply simpler), the Ford has 6,000 pounds between GCWR and GVWR (18,500 - 12,500). The Chevy is only 3,700 pounds (16,000 - 12,300).

Particularly with the Chevy, you are very unlikely to get close to the 8,000-pound hitch capacity before you reach GCWR limits.

You hit the nail on the head, mine is a 2014 with 3000 lib hitch. Limits me to what I want to tow. But extra tow weight comes out of somewhere. Seems they would do more than just replace the hitch. I can chg the hitch and lighten the load inside

Assuming you are not at 100% of GVWR (likely required to allow for trailer tongue weight -- unless towing a car), you could get close to hitch rating with the Ford.

If starting out at 11,500 pounds (1,000 below GVWR), then you'd have 7,000 pounds of capacity before reaching the 18,500-pound GCWR. And that's pretty good for a small RV.

Thanks for the information. I have a Chateau 24F. I plan on pulling wheels down a 2017 Jeep Trailhawk. The Trailhawk has a GVWR of 4000 pounds. This with the GVWR of the coach gives me a GCVW of approximately 16500 pounds. It appears I should not have a problem towing the Jeep since I am within specs. Am I looking at this correctly?
