dolly towing no trailer brakes

I have a 28A class C. I want to tow a Honda Fit (2500lbs) on a dolly with no trailer brakes. This appears to be legal if is is under 3100 lbs. Does anyone do anything similar and is it OK? I suspect I wont even feel a car that light back there.

You won't feel it till it starts pushing the MH down the hills. I towed a 1500 lb. boat for years with a 22' B+ without trailer brakes. From my experience you should expect to go through front brake pads on the MH much quicker than you would normally. Most of the stress of stopping that ton and a half will fall to the coach's front pads.

I tow a 2800# Toyota Prius on a dolly without brakes.
No problems so far, but I’m careful not to over do it on the down hills.

You should be fine.
Take it ez

I am sure you will notice you’re pulling something. Be aware stopping distance will increase substantially

Not all of the States follow the same weight limitations; when it comes to requiring brakes.
If you're travelling out of your Province: know the rules for your intended route.

I’m just curious....why would you even WANT to tow without brakes? The rig certainly will stop better with more wheels doing the stopping and RVs already are not noted for short stopping distances. The life you save might be your own.

I would also prefer to "err on the side of caution..."

Agree with others upgrade your dolly to have brakes. More stopping power is good.

Yesterday while heading home, a jack ass pulled into to 65mph traffic. He was nice enough to pull in front of me. Ya its hard to see a MH when you are on he phone. Any way slamming on the brakes I was happy the dolly brakes were there to asset. t

Another consideration is the shock load you throw on the hitch assembly if you have to hard brake with no trailer assisted braking. Most of us have to use some type of "drop down or up" hitch adapter. The full weight of the tow against this angled assembly can cause stress issues. If you were involved in a really bad accident where someone got hurt...the "TV Lawyers" hired against you will go over your coach with a fine-toothed comb, including braking systems, proper maintenance performed, tire conditions, proper tire pressures, hitch setup, etc. Address every issue as if you were driving a commercial gasoline tanker through a school zone.

Scary! But wait till you meet one of those phone jackasses when you’re on a motorcycle. Stay frosty my friends!
