What's the best way to check if a 2000 GMC 1500 CAN BE FLAT TOWED, AND OR DOLLY TOWED
Buying a 2000 GMC 1500 with 72,000 miles well taken care of,wondering if I can flat tow it?
2 wheel drive. Auto transmission.

If it is 2 wheel drive it probably can't be towed 4 down and if it isn't front wheel drive it can't be dolly towed either. Check the Owner's Manual under "Recreational Towing" for what GMC says about it.

Yep as I think about it, I'm afraid your right, at least without dropping the drive shaft, and that's case it's a no go, as I just can't do stuff like that anymore. Oh well will make a great knock around truck!

I've seen a few dollies with a rear wheel drive backed (rear off the ground) on the dolly.
Does the GMC have locking steering?
If it does it should work .

Don't trust the locking column! I drove a tow truck in the late 70's-early 80's and have seen the result of the 1/4" lock pin shearing off. We always locked the column AND used a spring loaded device that wedged in the seat and gripped the steering wheel with rubber padded loops. Probably still available from towing supply companies.

From the Owners Manual:
Two-Wheel-Drive Vehicles
Two-wheel-drive vehicles, should not be towed with
all four wheels on the ground. Two-wheel-drive
transmissions have no provisions for internal lubrication
while being towed. To properly tow these vehicles, they
should be placed on a platform trailer with all four
wheels off the ground.
In rare cases when it’s unavoidable that a
two-wheel-drive vehicle is to be towed with all four
wheels on the ground, the propeller shaft to axle yoke
orientation should be marked and the propeller shaft
removed following the applicable service manual
removal/installation procedure.
