the CVT transmission design, though, has nothing to do with whether a vehicle is flat-towable... that is up to other manufacturing designs from the factory itself, as both my '14 Fiesta and '14 Focus are toad, and both are CVTs.

CVT = Continuous Variable Transmission, which works as a more continual movement for the right 'speed' range, versus the traditional 'fixed' transmission speed ranges.

My Fiesta had a 'sport' mode, which allowed the driver to manually pick a transmission range, and the Focus has a 'mountain' mode, which basically 'fixes' the transmission in a more traditional mode, for steep grades.

Several Subby dealers have said absolutely no to an auto or CVT tranny Subby flat tow, but absolutely, to a conventional manual. Thinking a traditional Outback or Forester (2012/13) for the cargo space and all wheel drive as we will need to return to Canada a few times each winter from wherever we go to find the sun. Who flat tows a Subaru...or other than a jeep who tows an all wheel or four wheel drive UNDER 3500 pounds on all four? Thanks! (Coach is a V10 Gas Thor Citation 29TB)
I have a 2011 forester that I'm getting rid of bc it can't be flat or dolly towed. I didn't know sany new subaru automatic transmissions could be towed flat. Did I misread that message?

You must have an automatic transmission - limited to 20 mph and 31 miles distance.
