Double Hitch??

I'm unable to find a double hitch that has a tow rating over 4000#. I flat tow a CRV and want to put a bicycle rack above it. The receiver on the MH is exactly level with the tow bar so I want to keep that in place. I can't put the bike rack on the back of the CRV because I load my mobility scooter into the CRV. Anyone have any idea where I can get a Double Hitch that has greater the 4000# rating. Thanks

If you need anything for towing etrailer is the place to look, if they don't have it it probably doesn't exist!

Call etrailer and ask if they even make something like that, they would know. They might have one that just isn't on the website.

Made the call to Etrailer and she emailed me 2 options. Both were what I told her I didn't want so I guess it is not available. Thanks

Here's the one I use when towing the car and carrying the platform for the Cricket.

Harbor Freight has what you need, but it's only 400 lb also. Your 2" receiver is most likely only rated at 5000lbs so what would it matter with the 4000 lb offset hitch? The CRV adds minimal tongue weight & a couple bicycles will only add at most 200lbs. Just curious why you'd need more?

Thanks but the tongue weight is not an issue. Its the 4000# GTW (gross tow weight). Because my CRV, 3500#, tanks of gas, my mobility scooter in the back of the CRV and any minimal extras.....I could be over the 4000# limit or too close for comfort.

Would something like this work? It's not a dual receiver adaptor but may accomplish what you need.

Another option you may want to consider as a possibility is leaving the existing receiver as at present for your car, and adding a clamp-on receiver to one side to carry the bikes. As long as your bikes aren't too heavy there should be many options that clamp a 2-inch receiver to the motorhome's receiver cross-tube (don't know actual cross-tube's name). A google search shows quite a few options. They are similar in shape to clamp-on receivers for RV bumpers but with different bolt spacing.

This might be the only solution. Thanks for the info, Chance.

Personally I'd use the 4k double before bolting anything heavier than a sewer hose to those flimsy bumpers. Again my .02 cents. The piece that bolts the the receiver might work though.

Am I missing something here?
Why not just tow the CRV, and mount the bikes up on it's roof?

I use to put a couple of bikes on my CR-V years ago and can say it's probably not for everyone. Depending on your height, age/strength and bike weight it may not be an easy task.

Single road bikes in 16~20 pound range were easy for me, but my 30-pound tandem took some effort; although I could do it by myself. And there are many single bikes, particularly MTBs, that can weigh that much. I also worried that if bikes got away from me it could damage car -- fortunately never did.

That is also a good idea. However with me being physically limited, don't know if I could get the bikes up there and the CRV doesn't have a roof rack. I'm overthinking this. I had a receiver hitch put on the CRV for one of those electric mobility scooter lift but then discovered that the uni-body frame will not support the lift and the scooter totalling about 300#. So, I'm gonna find a bike rack that will hold my 2 folding bikes and simply use the receiver on the CRV.

A little late to the thread here. But, clamp on reciever works great on our ws31. The bumper on ours feels very well built and this setup sits above the tow bar reciever with plenty of clearance.

The downside to me using the CRV receiver is that I load my mobility scooter in the back of the CRV and would have to remove the bike rack from the CRVin order to load/unload the mobility scooter???

I'm sorry: I never gave the weight any consideration...
Since I still have a relatively strong back (and a remarkably weak mind...); I forgot to look at the problem from beyond my own perspective.
