Towing vehicle with a cargo tray

Hello everyone, I want to tow my toad but I also want to be able to have one of those cargo trays on the back of the rv. I want to put a cargo bag on it. The 25.2 Vegas just doesn't have all the outside storage we need. What would be the best set up for this to work safely, Or is it one of those things you don't do while towing while towing. Thank you all for your suggestions/recommendations

Does the toad have a hitch? Could you put the tray on the back of the toad?

That's an idea I would have to add a hitch on the toad. Thank you I will certainly look into that

Cargo tray and Towed

I use the tray and pull a towed at the same time. I needed a drop-hitch for my tow-bar anyways so I simply bought a Roadmaster drop-hitch with a dual receiver.

I also use it with our bicycle rack too. Looks kinda like picture below (this isn't my rig).

What sort of Toad are we talking about? Perhaps the cargo bag can be made to fit inside of it.

Hello Bob Denman and thank you I have decided to put the carrier bag in the back of the car. After measuring the height of the hitch at 18.5" high and the car height 16.5" high I will look into an adapter like ScottyB410 showed. Just to bring the height differences a little closer. Now on those trips were the bikes will be used I will put a rack on the back of the car like JamieGeek mentioned. I thank you all, Now I have to figure out what kind of portable ice machine I need! Decisions Decisions....

Am interested in moving my bike rack from the back of my toad/Jeep to the back of my Aria motorhome. Am looking at the Roadmaster 4" drop/rise dual hitch adapter. Am hesitant as it looks like when I would bring up the tow bar arms, they would hit the bike rack as well as bike itself. Do you have this issue?

My bike rack:
Allen Sports Deluxe Locking Quick Release 3-Bike Carrier for 2 in. & 1 4 in. Hitch, Model 532QR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078YNXL26..._XmjtDb67EVDA1

What kind of Jeep do you have?
Could you put a bike rack up on it's roof?

That is exactly what we do. To make use of storage space in the rv I pack all the things we use each time we stop to camp in the back of the car, so screened tent, chairs, folding table mainly which consume a lot of bay space. I have an attachment I slide in the hitch so we can carry the rack vertical rather than having it hanging out the back so if we dont have anything on it then it keeps us more compact.

Grand Cherokee. The bikes works on the Jeep, but the rear sensors go crazy when in reverse, as well as in the way when we access the rear storage. Was thinking behind motorhome would be an improvement, but maybe not.

Roof is an option though getting bikes up and down more of a challenge.

Thank you for the suggestion.

On the positive side: The Grand Cherokee can easily accept a bike rack on it's roof rails, and it sits low enough for them to never be a problem!

I used a dual hitch accessory receiver, and turned my cargo carrier around and used the other 'side' of the receiver for it, and pulled my toad at the same time.... worked fine, as I had space between my hitch and the rear of the coach - some RVs may not, though, unless you also supplement it with a hitch receiver extender, which could also work.

Thank you for the suggestion.

Definitely recommend keeping your tow bar as level as possible with the Cherokee behind it due to the sheer size and weight of it so it has no tendencies to try to ride up when braking.

Hmmmm never thought of that. Bikes on the roof. But then I wouldn’t make many bridge overpasses. 🤣
