Moldy bread
 
Maybe this is an Arizona thing because I never had it happen in Oregon but more times than not any bread/bread products I put in the cupboards gets condensation in the bag and then molds within a couple days. I tried cooling the rig with cupboards open before I left on a trip and also tried putting the bread on the counter but still the same result. Hate to start putting the bread in the fridge but may have to. Anyone had this happen and have a resolution?

Microwave as breadbox
 
We keep all our bread products in the microwave. Just make sure it is cooled off after cooking in it before putting the bread back. No condensation or bug issues. Or, you have nice large counters, you could get a real breadbox.

When I was a bachelor I got the idea to suck air out of bred bag and seal tight with the twist tie. Seemed to me it helped.

We keep an open box of arm & hammer baking soda in the cabinet with the bread, as well as the refrigerator, the freezer, and the pantry.

We are in the Phoenix area, good info, thanks! Haven't stored any food in our unit yet, but when we've parked it for storage I fill a bucket with a few inches of water and leave it in the middle of the floor, and crack at least one roof vent.

Just for clarification. The ONLY time I put food (other than canned) in my rig is just prior to departing on a trip and then only after I've ran the A/C and cooled it down. For some reason I get condensation in the bag of any bread products and then mold. I'm guessing it has something to do with the heat and low humidity. Was hoping someone had this happen and had a solution.

Mike, is the water to put a little moisture in the air?

Airforceret, I'm willing to try most anything but how do you see this helping?

I have not a clue as to the science of it... it was shared with us 40 years ago and we've yet to have mold or musty in the fridge or freezer, and we leave food in our camper all summer till it goes to winter storage, so it's something we've continued to do over the years. Every couple of years we'll swap out the old for some new.

I'll give it a try. If nothing else it sure works great in absorbing the smells.

Mike - yes, it's to put moisture in the coach. The main purpose, as I understand it, is to keep the wood from drying out from the extreme heat. Thinking about it now, I guess it has no relevance to your issue!

Great idea though. I'm going to give it a try. In Oregon I was doing everything I could to keep the moisture out and now I'm putting it back in. Go figure.
I store under cover but as you well know it still gets damn hot and dry.

I must admit I find it weird hearing about needing to add moisture to anything. Around here the challenge is always battling the high humidity, which is what I think I'll battle with my RV when I get it. Until, or if, I get it in an enclosed space, I was thinking I might need to run a dehumidifier when it's stored outside. Worried about the heat and humidity.

Yeah, the Arizona desert is different than most other parts of the country.

For humidity control, might I suggest looking on Amazon? There are a lot of items for that, some small (for a storage box, say), some for gun safes or closets. But I also saw some for whole rooms. Some need power (plug n or battery) but others do not.

On something small like a gun safe, a lot of options, but for larger areas (basements, garages, possibly houses and others) around here dehumidifiers are about the only option, if the HVAC doesn't handle it completely. We are typically 50% humidity during the day, and by sun down it's climbing past 60% and will typically be 80-90%+ in the overnight hours.

I figure for the RV, I'll start by keeping a WiFi temp/humidity gauge in it and see how high the humidity gets. If it mostly stays in the low 50s, then probably leave it alone. If it's routinely approaching or over 60%, then I would be afraid to leave it without some dehumidification.

Interesting. Normally condensation is the result of differing temps. Is the bread warmer or cooler than the inside temp of the coach? We generally keep bread products in the microwave unless it is being used. Another option is to try storing it in an insulated grocery/freezer bag to keep the bread's temperature relatively constant.

regarding the bread issue...living in the Midwest...high humidity all summer..usually...I keep our bread in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator ..
no mold issues at home or in the rv.

Reference baked products, we keep them all in the microwave. They stay fresher longer and won't mold. The only time we have ever needed to add moisture to the inside of any RV was a couple years when we would stay in the north during the first part of December prior to heading to Florida. We were running the RV furnace and ceramic heaters and humidity levels were extremely low.

Thanks to all for the kind replies. When I was preparing to leave last week I decided to do a little test by putting 3 slices of bread in ziplocks and putting it in different places. I thought the microwave was going to be the place but I found it to be quite warm inside almost like I had just used it. I don't know it if picks heat up from the fridge or what but it was very warm. I did find a place that was quite cool compared to everywhere else though and that was, of all places, the oven. The second day I had condensation on everything except the bread in the oven. Day 3 mold on everything except bread in the oven. We departed Wednesday afternoon and returned a short while ago and after 5 days it's still good. Guess I found myself a new little breadbox.

I use these from Dollar Store when on the road and not use it do you dehumidifier. Attachment 7379

We must buy a different brand of bread? We are between Tucson & Phoenix & our bread will dry out long before it molds & just leave it on the cabinet.
In Washington/Oregon we were constantly throwing out a 1/2 a moldy loaf, finally started putting it in the fridge.
