House batteries

How full do you need to fill the batteries with distilled water? The sales person said to fill them to the top, but my husband says to just fill them to the top of the platelets.

There should be a line or mark, that designates the proper level...
But you'll need to find it!
Good luck, and happy hunting! :D

Your husband is correct. I just finished mine last week and they are working great!

Cover the platelets...

Add water so the plates are covered, which will protect the batteries. You don't want the level too high, as the liquid will heat and expand as batteries are charged. If it overflows since the mixture contains sulfuric acid,, you will have a very corrosive liquid getting on things you do not want it on.

Batteries should be filled with distilled water while battery is at a FULL state of charge. Fill to just at or below the lower edge of the fill tube. The tube extends down about an inch from the top of the cell. There are several aftermarket fill kits that will do this for you. I utilize one that fills all 4 house batteries simultaneously to the correct height.

Lot's of info available. A decent place to start:

This is correct.

Also, referring to a previous post. They are plates, platelets are in your blood stream.:whistling:

Go to YouTube and search for adding water to batteries.

Your husband is wrong. If you fill them just to the top of the platelets and the water level drops at all then it's below the platelets. Not good! As a couple people have already said, fill to the mark on the fill tube that many times isn't really a mark but rather a rectangular or round shape in the fill tube.
