A Genturi is your best solution to redirect the sound from your exhaust. The majority of the noise, as others have said, is mechanical. Adding any type of additional muffler will not have much effect and if it creates any back pressure you risk damaging your generator. Over the years I’ve seen lots of attempts to quiet generators, I have yet to see one that was particularly successful.
