We made a lot of mistakes initially, including use of inferior TP, using too much, and not using enough water while trying to conserve limited supply. Traveling with other adults who though an RV was like a house didn't help either.



With modern use of macerator pumps and clean-in-place flush systems, I see advantages of having just one large combination tank (grey and black as one) that would minimize some of these problems -- provided floorplan and elevations allow for proper drain line pitch.

I've read reviews of motorhomes (from Class B to luxury coaches) with a single combo tank and don't recall anything negative. The benefits, on other hand, are many; including lower cost, and lending itself to greater automation.
