I can imagine them applying it to a dusty surface, that might be typical in a workshop where there's lots of cutting and assembly going on.

But I'll offer counter point to this.... When I bought mine it was approx 12-13 months old but still "brand new". I had some suspect caulk that the dealer touched up. Unfortunately what that means is slop some more on top of the old...

Anyway, It can be that it sat on a lot a good long while so your first season might be eating well into its second year.
