We try to plan for 400 miles max. On our recent cross country trip from Arizona to New York we had some legs over 400 miles but also some under 300 miles. Our goal is to always stop in daylight. We learned the hard way that pulling into campgrounds at night can be dangerous (as in not being well lit and having curvy, hilly roads and no visibility!)
