My camping days don't go that far back but I can remember starting out with the Boy Scouts. Had one of those WWI/WII surplus  that buttoned together and thought I was in hog heaven. Mom couldn't afford a sleeping bag for me but she did let me take a couple Army wool blankets. Backpack was surplus from the Army/Navy Store.

This was me too!!! I upgraded my tent with glow in the dark tape on the tent poles! Super fun!!!
