With the vent installed the majority of the airflow will come from it but it can be rotated to direct air where needed or it can be closed completely. Since the vent is directly under the fan airflow is significantly increased as is cooling. I leave the ceiling vents open since you still get some airflow from them. If you install the vents and don’t like them (not likely) you just close the vent and everything is back to normal. When sleeping at night turn the vent to direct more air to the bedroom.
