Check to see if your bowl holds water. If it does then fill the bottom with a slight bit of water and it will keep the smells in the tank. If not, try cleaning the seal with a toilet brush or something. I find my seal gets plugged with toilet paper and it leaks. It also helps to let the valve snap shut when flushing. There is also a one way vent under my sink that needs to be replaced periodically. Perhaps someone with a better memory than mine can post the name of the valve. I buy mine from Amazon for less than $20. One more thing to check, make sure the P-Trap for your bathroom sink has water in it by running a couple of cups of water.
