Lucille, We just returned from the 2018 Balloon Fiesta. We had to stay in an RV park 20+ miles from the venue with reservations made months ago. Traffic and access in a car to the Balloon park is 2 hours of frustration and full lots even at 5am. At least the first day. Fortunately we chose the park and ride option parking at one of the Malls far from the Balloon site. School buses take you to the site on a road closed to others. Even that was a bit of a mess with long lines and confusing sign. Still the festival is well worth the hassle and crowd.

The second day we wanted to see the mass launch from a distance and went to the Sandia Casino in the RV at 5am. Huge nearly empty lots. Lot's of RV's dry camping with no hassles. Security patrols came by once in a while.

If we go again, we'll camp there and bicycle to the Balloon Park. ~ 2 miles, nice bike lanes to the park, special bike parking pen.
