I don't think that gap in mine is big enough for a fence post. I keep a long reach windshield squeegee there and that's about it.
Looking closely at your pics: It appears that your coach is closed off in between the two outside storage bins (there is a "floor" in that area in your pics). No such floor in mine; its open to the engine/trans below it (so yeah mine is probably a lot noisier than yours).

Yeah my 2017 looks like his. It had a molded plastic liner for the floor/walls so you can lose anything in the compartment.
