If you recall, the original Class A built on an E-Series Stripped chassis (it was not the Axis/Vegas) had straight sidewalks, which made it look a little goofy. Other than looks, it was more spacious and probably cheaper to build.

I'd argue that with today's manufacturing methods (laser cutting, and CNC machines for example) the Axis/Vegas front ends probably don't add that much to the overall cost of the coach.
