I used a piece of particle board I had laying around for the extension (plywood would work just as well). To stiffen the extension between the support brackets I glued and screwed a piece of 1x2 to the underside.

They are rated at 330lbs each.


I used pieces of 2x4 inside the bed frame to reinforce the attach points for the brackets. This puts some of the load into the floor instead of just the bed frame.
