Coach battery box questions

I am a proud owner of a Thor MC Class C Freedom ELite. I recently purchased a battery box and tried it out today. It would not fit through the coach angle frame underneath the step. It would fit if I cut out the top of the frame, which I will not do. It is a hard plastic box and is not flexible. I will return it. The battery frame is showing no corrosive deterioration at this time. So, the question is what does everyone else do to safely house the battery and protect the coach steel frame any residual splashes?
