IMO, primarily cost. That's why I didn't seriously consider.
Secondarily, I have read that they don't last as long because they get hot

Not that I ever seriously considered this either, but it seems to me that it would be doable to glue down a traditional rigid panel.... continuous bead around the aluminum perimeter frame, with something like 5200. I doubt if it would come up.
