Have you plugged anything in the Ford's trailer plug before? It is possible that you're missing a relay--check the Ford's owner's manual.

Perhaps the LED's aren't providing enough impedance (much like when you replace a car's turn signal with an LED you need to add a resistor so that the signals blink at the proper rate).
