What a great trip! You do realize that a circuitous tour The perimeter of Florida amounts to about 2000 miles? The snow birds start arriving around the first of October, so traveling in September should be easier.
We have friends that love, love, love Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. It's just East of Destin. We would rather stay at nearby Henderson Beach State Park.
There are some state parks with campgrounds in the Keys, too, Curry Hammock and Bahia Honda among them. We would prefer to stay at one of them and drive into Key West for a day trip. As was said, reservations are always limited.
We stayed at Faver-Dykes SP once, and won't go back. Happy trails!
