I haven't weighed mine, I have a 8,000lbs hitch, but everything I've read says just under 5,000lbs. If you are close, don't fill it up with gas, don't put any "stuff" in it, and you should be fine. A 5,000lbs hitch isn't doing to disintegrate at 5,001lbs. They have a healthy safety factor built in. I towed a 5,000lbs ford Expedition for years behind a Bounder that had a 5,000lbs hitch. I just tried not to put anything extra in it to press my luck. There were never any signs of wear or tear.
