Dave - That is correct. Our 2016 is built on a 2015 chassis. Our chassis was built in March 2016 but the motorhome was built in June. We bought it in July. I think Thor changed shortly after from the E350 to the E450 chassis.
I don't know enough about the transmission differences to be of any help on the six speed. But we have had no trouble at all with the old version. It climbs the Rocky Mountains like a billy goat.
