When i did mine, i modified the water heater one and tied it to the inside, rather than over the outside like a shell. In a similar way as the fridge vents are covered.
Looks better I think and is better protected.
I wish i could find a good solution for the range vent hood.... so far I haven't. If I had more time I'd probably try to rig up something
