The valve on the tank must be open, the valve at the connection must be open, the quick disconnect must be secure. Of the three the quick disconnect is the easiest to get wrong. The male end has to be inserted and fully locked in position or no propane flow. Had trouble with mine the first time. Don't turn on the valve at the connector until after you have the hose plugged in. Turn the valve off before you turn off the burners to allow the propane to bleed off.
