If the holes are small (nail holes) then wood putty works great. Just use a very small amount an no one will notice. You will see for sometime because you know it's there, but others will not. Eventuality you will forget and not see it either.

For larger holes like screws and the wire hole on the thermostat, there is not much of a cure except what others stated; More wallpaper or paint the entire wall. Another choice is to put something else over it.

I learned the putty trick from some very small holes that I found during PDI. The dealer's repair department had wood putty that matched the paper. I can find the two holes still, but do have to look hard and feel the wall.
