Yep, we tow an hyundai elantra and we get the same smell. It freaked us out the first time too. It goes away after driving for a bit. It was worse on our trip over the summer than on our trip to Florida over Christmas break. It would be interesting to note if some vehicles are more or less prone to this than others. I'm betting that road conditions such as temperature and wet vs dry have an impact on the degree to which we experience this.
