It is better to connect the plug in both the pedestal and the rv with no power, since as you are connecting the plugs can make intermittent contact. And that intermittent "off-on" can play havoc with things that need power.
Then when the connections are secure, flip the breaker to apply power...
I have to explain this everytime someone says "cant you just unplug it?'
