I use to put a couple of bikes on my CR-V years ago and can say it's probably not for everyone. Depending on your height, age/strength and bike weight it may not be an easy task.

Single road bikes in 16~20 pound range were easy for me, but my 30-pound tandem took some effort; although I could do it by myself. And there are many single bikes, particularly MTBs, that can weigh that much. I also worried that if bikes got away from me it could damage car -- fortunately never did.
