We just returned from a trip where it got as low as 16 degrees and several days below freezing. I found that an oil based heater works pretty good for us as it has a thermostat and a 900 watt (med) setting that produces a lot of heat with a lower power consumption. There is no fan so it's whisper quiet. We can use a second ceramic heater on low to add heater and air circulation if need be.

DeLonghi 5,120-BTU Oil-Filled Radiant Compact Personal Electric Space Heater with Thermostat and Energy Saving Setting
Item # 783552 Model # TRLS0715EL

Lowes has them for about $70.
